A couple dozen eaters will perform Saturday, July 17, when the Fifth Annual Reuben Eating contest is held on Jefferson Street in front of Pastrami Joe’s to raise funds for the Marshall Fountain Clinic.
The event begins at 4 p.m. with a children’s Reuben Relay obstacle course featuring kids who’ve raised money for the clinic. The participants will win medals and prizes for their work in the relay.
At 5 p.m. the Celebrity Eaters will take to the stage to see how many Reuben sandwiches they can put away in the name of assisting the Fountain Clinic. Winners here will be recognized for their fundraising efforts and their ability to eat corned beef and sauerkraut.
Included among this group will be several bank representatives, local government people, media representatives, merchants, volunteers, people from service clubs, and politicians. If you should want to participate, you’re welcome. All you need is the $150 entry fee and a big appetite. You can enter by signing up online at www.pastramijoes.com.
Sponsorships are also available by going to the website.
